Sports Training Poll Shows Elite Athletes Don't Need a Gym for Fitness Training

(PRWEB) September 9, 2007 -- Peak Performance, the research newsletter for elite athletes and coaches, polled 3800 of its members to reveal that 38% of amateur sportsmen and women don't use a gym for their fitness training. Although the number one reason for this was the monthly fee, many respondents stated that instead of going to the gym, they have all they need at home (32%), and many more do all their sports training (http://www.pponline.co.uk) outside (33%).

"Gym membership is expensive, with a high joining fee and steep monthly costs that put off many amateur athletes," said Jonathan Pye, publisher of Peak Performance. "In addition, many athletes told us they do not like the culture of gyms, with the emphasis on vanity and the unfriendliness of the other gym-goers. Because of this, and because of the particular requirements of their sport, a large number of athletes train at home or outside."

Peak Performance is the perfect resource for these people, as it costs far less than a gym membership and provides athletes with all the tools they need to design their own sports training programs -- either using equipment at home or just their own bodies and the great outdoors.

One respondent told Peak Performance: "I enjoy the convenience of training at and in my home. Also, it's amazingly time saving. I'm already here, and I'm not distracted."

Another said, "I don't need to train in the gym as I know how to train myself, being familiar with strength training theory and practice."

Subscribers to Peak Performance learn how to take the latest findings from the world's sports science labs and transfer that to their own sports training and fitness programs.
